   trade = sacrifice  NOR   sacrifice = trade

This makes one wonder if perhaps the notion of "balance" in modern life should not mean "equal" --as in equal amounts of good and bad-- but rather should be a concept aimed more at "homeostatic" --as in "just the right amount of the required good ingredient, neither too much nor too little but exactly, precisely what is required"*.

A trade is a trade and a sacrifice is a sacrifice and never the twain shall meet.
